Health physical education and sport

Studies in this area arise out of understandings of the nature and functioning of human beings, both as individuals and communities.  Health education aims to build an understanding of safety education, nutrition education and growth and development.

Physical education, as an integral part of education, aims to assist students attain maximum development physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually according to their capabilities.  The unique contribution of physical education is the provision of opportunities for structuring learning situations in motor experiences that favourably influence the growth and development of each child.

All children are expected to participate in the school's physical education and sports program.  We believe that physical education and organised sport play a major role in child growth and development, in respect of physical, social and academic areas.

Swimming

Buderim Mountain State School has its own swimming pool where all swimming lessons and carnivals take place. All children from Years 1 to 6 take part in our learn-to-swim program.  As swimming is an integral part of the education program, all students are expected to participate unless medical or physical issues prevent them doing so.  If your child is not participating, you must advise your child's teacher in writing. Students are able to compete at the interschool swimming carnival upon successful nomination.

Sport

Both interschool and intra-school sport are played.  The interschool sporting competition on Fridays between 11.00am and 2.30pm includes auskick, oztag, basketball, netball, and soccer. This involves children in Years 6. Children participating in interschool sport are expected to wear a school uniform when representing their school. Intra school sport is organised by class teachers and consists of cooperative and competitive games and sports.

Athletics

Children train in athletics skills as a prelude to our inter house athletics carnival held at the school.  Selected children then compete in the interschool athletics carnival.

Cross country is held at both intra and interschool levels with successful children representing our school at central districts sports carnival.

Ball games

Ball games are held on an intraschool level in Years 4-6 during the intraschool athletics carnival.
